198 RWs in Central Jakarta Have Implemented Waste Sorting Program

Waste sorting and waste management program continues to be intensified in Central Jakarta. As of today, there are 198 RWs or 50 percent of total RWs in Central Jakarta have implemented waste management program by sorting waste from household.

Waste sorting at RW level has been carried out in 198 of total 289 RWs in Central Jakarta

Central Jakarta Environment (LH) Sub-agency Head, Marsigit stated, waste sorting and transporting education program which scheduled at RW level should be intensified. This activity is in accordance with Jakarta Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 77/2020 on Waste Management in Scope of Community Unit (RW).

"Waste sorting at RW level has been carried out in 198 of total 289 RWs in Central Jakarta. It means, the achievement has reached more than 50 percent. We continue to socialize people about this program," he conveyed, Wednesday (1/5).

East Jakarta LH Sub-agency Promotes Waste Sorting Family Card Program

He explained that residents sorted their waste by type, such as organic waste, recycled waste, hazardous and toxic (B3) waste, and residual waste. The mechanism for transporting waste is in accordance with TPS schedule in each sub-districts.

"For organic waste, usually it is according to agreement of the residents, twice a week. But for non-organic waste, we pick it up every day. Organic waste is transported according to agreement between residents, RW, and each LH units. We pick it up using garbage truck, while at RT level, we use garbage cart," he said.

Several regions have been active in sorting and managing waste. They are 13 RWs in Cempaka Putih Barat Urban Village, 6 RWs in Petojo Utara, 10 RWs in Kebon Kosong Urban Village, 9 RWs in Karang Anyar Urban Village, 10 RWs in Bungur Urban Village, and 12 RWs in Kebon Melati Urban Village.
